Welcome. I'm Dr. Susan Wnuk, a clinical psychologist at the University Health Network Bariatric Surgery Program in Toronto where I work with individuals living with obesity and related mental and physical health conditions. My work also involves conducting research, supervising students and presenting at conferences. I'm an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto and I have a private practice where I provide individual psychotherapy to adults.
I have provided psychotherapy and assessment services to clients struggling with a wide range of problems, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, substance use disorders and borderline personality disorder. The settings where I have worked include university counselling centres, hospitals and private practice.
My current research focus is disordered eating, body image and mindfulness. I'm interested in understanding how people can develop a healthy relationship with food and their bodies. I have a particular interest in evidence-based approaches to behaviour change that involve mindfulness. My training and experience includes Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Eating Awareness Training, Emotion-focused Therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. I am a member in good standing with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
I am also interested in the therapeutic effects of plant-based diets on mental and physical health and co-lead the Plant-based Healthcare Professionals group, a network of healthcare professionals interested in this topic.
